Like No Other

State and local sales taxes, utility users taxes, TRS fees, federal and state Universal Service Funds (USF), franchise fees, E911, and tax-on-tax, among others. CereTax solves the tax and regulatory puzzle for communications for whatever flavor of communications you may provide including but not limited to:

01

VoIP

Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, is the fastest growing sector in the communications field and often the most misunderstood when it comes to taxation.

  • Are my services interconnected VoIP or are they non-interconnected VoIP?
  • What’s the difference and why does it matter?
  • Am I required to collect USF charges?
  • How do I base my USF charges?
  • What is safe harbor?
  • What about E911 fees?

These are all questions that have to be answered and factored in your communications tax platform to effectively implement a safe and effective tax policy.

02

Wireless

With the low barriers of entry thanks to carriers ramping up their reseller channels, MVNOs of all kinds are constantly being brought to market.

  • But do you know what taxes to apply?
  • What about for prepaid wireless?
  • Is it different?
  • What about top-ups?
  • What about bundled packages with data and internet access?
  • Do the different ways of marketing and selling effect taxation?

All of these are important real-world questions, that CereTax and our partners can help you answer.

03

Internet of Things (IoT)

Internet of Things (IoT) has taken the world by storm. Whether it is fleet monitoring, equipment monitoring, real-time data exchange, or security; there is almost no limit to the universe of the IoT. In addition, there is almost no limit to the variables that effect whether a particular deployment is completely tax exempt, or if it falls under sales taxes, lease taxes, use taxes, or communications taxes.

Before you rack up thousands, or even millions, of dollars in unpaid tax liabilities and penalties, Learn more about IoT on our blog and see how CereTax can help you become compliant and stay compliant with your sales taxes.

04

Data

Data is only taxable in a relatively small number of states. However, how you market, sell, and bundle your data services may inadvertently trip you over the line of non-taxable to taxable. In some states, where it is taxable, the tax is based on certain breakpoints or thresholds and tiers.

05

Private Line

With security threats abound and the need for dependable and rapid communications, Private Line Services have become a mainstay in the communications offering. Private Line Services are generally used to create a private network between the sites of a multi-location business or connect to a data center. Because no other businesses or customers can use your Private Line, you are guaranteed the greatest security for your sensitive information.

Communications taxes do apply on Private Line Services, and the methods vary from state to state. Some states require that if a line originates or terminates in their state, 50% of the line charge is subject to tax based on that state's rules. However, some states maintain that regardless of, if the line only terminates or originates in their state, all of the line charge is subject to tax in their state.

06

LAN

A Local Area Network (LAN) is a collection of devices connected in one physical location, such as a building, office, or home. A LAN can be small or large ranging from a home network with one user to an enterprise network with thousands of users and devices in an office or school.A LAN comprises cables, access points, switches, routers, and other components that enable devices to connect to internal servers, web servers, and other LANs via wide area networks. The rise of virtualization has also fueled the development of virtual LANs, which enable network administrators to logically group network nodes and partition their networks without a need for major infrastructure changes.

For example, in an office with multiple departments, such as accounting, IT support, and administration, each department's computers could be logically connected to the same switch but segmented to behave as if they are separate. Providing LAN services can greatly enhance your communications services offering.

Let CereTax help determine if your LAN is taxable, and if so, what taxes and fees are applicable and need to be collected.

07

WAN

A Wide Area Network (WAN) is a form of telecommunication networks that can connect devices from multiple locations and across the globe. WANs are the largest and most expansive form of computer networks available to date. These networks are often established by service providers who then lease their WAN to businesses, schools, governments, or the public.

These customers can use the network to relay and store data or communicate with other users, no matter their location, as long as they have access to the established WAN. Access can be granted via different links, such as Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) or lines, wireless networks, cellular networks, or internet access.

For international organizations, WANs allow them to carry out their essential daily functions without delay. Employees from anywhere can use a business’s WAN to share data, communicate with coworkers, or simply stay connected to the greater data resource center for that organization. Certified Network Professionals help organizations maintain their internal Wide Area Network, as well as other critical IT infrastructure.
